Emergency Plumbing

What is Professional Emergency Plumbing?

A plumbing emergency doesn’t wait for business hours. A burst pipe at midnight, a sewage backup on a holiday weekend, a gas leak discovered on a Sunday morning — these situations can’t be scheduled and they can’t be ignored. Every minute that passes without action is another minute of water damage, structural risk, or potential safety hazard building up inside your home.

Most plumbing companies offer emergency service in name only. In practice, that means leaving a voicemail, waiting hours for a callback, or being told the earliest available appointment is tomorrow. At So-Cal 1 Plumbing & Rooter, emergency means we answer, we dispatch, and we show up — any time of day or night, any day of the year.

Our emergency technicians arrive in fully stocked service trucks with the equipment and parts to address the most common emergency scenarios on the first visit. We don’t send an assessor first and a repair crew later. The person who shows up is the person doing the work, and they come ready to solve the problem — not just look at it.

Every emergency call starts with a clear assessment and upfront pricing before any work begins. No matter how urgent the situation, you’ll know exactly what the repair costs before we start. Licensed, insured, and background-checked — So-Cal 1 is the call you make when it can’t wait.

Signs You Need Emergency Plumbing

Some plumbing problems can wait for a Monday morning appointment. These can’t. If you’re experiencing any of the following, stop what you’re doing and call a licensed plumber immediately.

  • Burst or ruptured pipe with active water flow. Water pouring from a broken pipe can cause thousands of dollars in structural damage within minutes. Turn off the main water supply at your shutoff valve and call immediately — this is the definition of a plumbing emergency.
  • Sewage backing up into the home. Raw sewage in your bathtub, toilet, or floor drain is a health hazard that requires urgent professional response. Do not attempt to clean or clear this yourself — the blockage is almost certainly in the main sewer line and requires camera inspection and professional clearing.
  • No water at all — sudden and complete loss. If you’ve lost all water pressure suddenly with no known cause, a serious main line failure, significant leak, or water service issue may be responsible. Don’t assume it’s a utility outage without ruling out a problem on your side first.
  • Gas smell near plumbing or appliances. If you smell gas — often described as rotten eggs — near your water heater, stove, or any gas line, leave the home immediately, do not operate any switches or appliances, and call both your gas utility and a licensed plumber from outside the building. Do not re-enter until the all-clear has been given.
  • Ceiling or wall actively dripping or bulging with water. A water-stained ceiling is a slow leak. A ceiling that’s dripping, sagging, or visibly bulging is an active emergency — the structural integrity of the material is compromised and collapse is a real risk. This needs immediate attention.
  • Water heater leaking actively from the tank body. A small drip from a fitting is a repair. Water actively pooling from the base of the tank or from the tank body itself indicates internal failure — continued operation risks flooding and potential rupture. Turn off the water supply to the unit and call immediately.

If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies as an emergency, call us anyway. We’d rather help you assess it over the phone than have you wait and turn a manageable problem into a major one.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our Emergency Plumbing before you call.

A plumbing emergency is any situation that poses an immediate risk of significant water damage, structural damage, health hazard, or safety risk if not addressed urgently. Burst pipes, active sewage backup inside the home, sudden complete loss of water, gas smells near plumbing or appliances, and actively leaking water heater tanks all qualify. If you’re not sure, call us — we’ll help you assess it over the phone at no charge.

Response time depends on your location and current call volume. For most service areas we aim to have a technician on-site within 60 minutes of your call. We’ll give you a realistic ETA when you call so you know exactly when to expect us — we don’t give you a four-hour window and disappear.

Every job starts with a free on-site inspection — we never quote over the phone because we won’t put a number on work we haven’t seen. Once our technician has assessed the situation, you’ll receive clear upfront pricing before any work begins. After-hours and weekend calls may carry a service call fee, which will be clearly stated before we dispatch.

For water emergencies — turn off the main water supply valve to stop the flow if it’s safe to do so. For gas emergencies — leave the property immediately, do not operate any switches or appliances, and wait outside. For sewage backups — avoid using any drains or toilets in the home and keep the affected area clear. Our dispatcher will give you specific guidance based on your situation when you call.

Yes. So-Cal 1 technicians are equipped and trained to handle the full range of residential plumbing emergencies — burst pipes, sewage backups, water heater failures, slab leaks, gas line issues, and major drain blockages. Our trucks carry the tools and parts most commonly needed for emergency repairs so we can resolve most situations in a single visit.

It depends on your policy and the cause of the damage. Sudden accidental damage — like a burst pipe — is often covered, while gradual deterioration typically is not. We provide full documentation of the emergency repair including photos and a written invoice, which you can submit directly to your insurance provider to support a claim. We recommend calling your insurer as soon as the immediate emergency is under control.

Call us. That’s what 24/7 means. Our emergency line is answered by a real person at any hour — 2am, 3am, Christmas morning. Plumbing emergencies don’t work around business hours and neither do we. The after-hours service call fee will be stated clearly before we dispatch so there are no surprises on your invoice.

My mother's kitchen faucet suddenly broke. Water was coming out of the cabinet underneath instead of the faucet. So Cal came out to fix the issue within an hour. They also called me back within a minute of submitting the request. Responsiveness was awesome.
